StampBoards.com Where Philatelists meet

StampBoards.com is a very active forum based Internet stamp collecting site where you can read and write about different topics. It is an excellent board with many forums, where even the beginning collector is treated with respect and will feel at home.

If you post a philatelic question or comment on StampBoards, you will always get a response from other stamp collectors and dealers, who freely share their knowledge. There are forums where you can discuss anything at all to do with stamps, selling/giveaway/trading forums, even humor and recreation forums.

While you can browse the forums without needing to be registered, you do need to register to post. There are certain rules you need to follow once registered. You need to make 20 posts and have been a member for 20 days before you can participate in a few of the forum activities, like accepting some of the freebies members offer from time to time, trading and selling. This ensures that participants in these activities actually belong to the StampBoards community.

While the site is hosted in the US, it is run primarily by Glen Stephens, a very highly respected Australian stamp dealer. Stampboards is very well moderated around the clock by volunteers who come from all over the globe.

Whatever your level of philatelic knowledge, I'm certain you will enjoy StampBoards.

stampboards - the new place to discuss STAMP COLLECTING and PHILATELY!

  2. Just a heads up--It's probably not a good idea to use Glen Stephens' name in a promotion, as it is quite well know in the stamp collecting world that his integrity is not to be trusted.

Yes it is true. He was expelled because he was forging overprints and he was explosed by me and a few other stamp dealers. And this was not the first time. He has been crooked for decades. A real scourge on the industry.

  3. The site is operated by a fellow named Glen Stephens, who is becoming quite well know in the stamp collecting community as the epitome of what is wrong with the hobby. Stephens has a few egomaniacal insiders who constantly berate new members. The site serves two purposes--for Stephens to sell his (significantly overpriced) wares, and to berate ebay and it's users on a daily basis. I can't verify this, but word on the internet is that Stephens himself was banned from ebay, so I suppose this is his way of getting back. To be honest, there are some knowledgeable members on the site--but are you willing to be degraded and demeaned to find an answer? There are other stamp forums out there--I suggest going to one of them. Sure, Stampboards can boast a large member count, but that is misleading--once you sign up, you cannot take your name off the list. 95% of the "members" have two or less posts all time. The forum discussion topics are are set up so each and every post (where more and more redundant posts are encouraged) counts as a hit by Google, so Google's statistics are skewed as well. Overall, a rather lousy site, run by a non-professional dealer who has never been a collector.

  4. Glen Stephens is a liar and a crook! I agree with everyting NJW says in the comment above. I was a member of Stampboards. Glen Stephens is a very rude man who only tries to sell his junk to others. When you read all his posts you will see his contribution to philatelic knowledge is absolute zero!

  5. Glen Stephens - the owner of stampboards - is an arrogant, ignorant bully. If ask a question on the forum which is deemed too simple or if you disagree with his point of view you will be publicly ridiculed and any counter comment will be deleted so that his perceived wisdom can shine through. He exemplifies all that is wrong with on-line fora and the philatelic trade. He is supported by a coterie of equally ignorant sycophantic "site moderators" who keep the members in line.

A prime example of a narcissistic "small man" if ever there was. Having seen the squalor he lives in - courtesy of his own photographs published so proudly on his forum - I wouldn't buy anything from him for fear of catching something! Avoid!

  8. I'm a member of Stampboards. I like the forum except for one member, Glen Stephens! Like someone said in a reaction above he is using Stamboards only for selling his overpriced items and junk. And for bragging about what he has on sale, what he sold and to what countries he has been. When I read his sales pages I'm very annoyed by the misinformation he gives in order to sell more. I will never ever buy from Glen Stephens! When I read the rest of the forum I noticed Glen's contribution to philately is absolute zero! Glen's hobby is not stamps, his hobby is travelling to every country in the world. I came across him on another forum: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ He is also named ozstamps here.

I can't see the word 'genuine' in the item description. There's even a screenshot of the item in question in the thread, including the description heading.

Everyone knows that all you need in an auction is at least two people who want the same thing and are willing to throw money around and a good sale price can be realized.

No less than Simon Dunkerly stated 10 years ago that a 'used' example of the forgery was worth A$30 (http://www.glenstephens.com/sdpdf/Forgeries%20on%20eBay!.pdf) but now a mint example is only worth $10? For a classic forgery? Really?

A casual glance at an SG catalog will show a mint 3d Sydney View is worth more than 10 times a used one.

So, if a used example 10 years ago was worth 30 dollars/pounds why wouldn't a mint example be worth 300 dollars/pounds in 2016?

    2. Ha ha ha ha !!!!! I missed this.

Glen Stephens thought he was going to be rolling in money by ramping up those shit Adelaide "emergency" stamps, only to be dudded by the seller.

It takes one crook to know one.

The only "emergency" is his desperate need to unload them onto Stampboards bunnies.

The price has already crashed so don't touch them, or Glen Stephens for that matter.

For the record, this is the feedback he left:

"AVOID! Newbie, never sold on ebay. Bought $1800 lot, which never arrived" -

This 2016 $1 souvenir sheet is not rare. It was printed in large numbers.
First it was priced at $2 because it had the "wrong" date. (The date on the stamp, 2004, is the copyright date, so NOT a "wrong" date!)
Then the price was increased to $2.50 because he discovered the stamp has a different perforation than the original 2004 issue.
Now the price is increased to $3 because some dealer was interested in buying his stock.
Look at his bunnies buying this sheet...
Glen bought them for $1 each from Australia Post of course.

I see airline barf bags and safety cards and menus on eBay all the time.

I wrote about it this week:

      http://www.glenstephens.com/snmay05.html

As I said there, and the same applies for much of the airline related junk I see peddled on eBay:

The old phrase: "A fool and his money are soon parted" came immediately to mind for some reason!

      https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qantas-frequent-flyer/421579-qantas-king-neptune-equator-crossing-certificate-c1970s.html

I think "barf bag" is an accurate description of much of Glen Stephens' "stock".

    1. My take on this fiasco is:

      Lot Sold in April 2019.

Then Glen forgets to post them as per usual. (Wonder if credit card was swiped?).

Buyer doesn't get lot on the post.

Glen loses lot in the garbage pile.

Eventually Glen finds lot in rubbish.

Then Glen RELISTS the same lot in Aug 2019, 4 months later.

Sounds like the buyer didn't get his lot at all.

Glen will no doubt invent some contorted excuse along the lines of: "I really did post it, but Australia Post sent it BACK TO ME as they are want to do".

Well, I have a full time job, plus I care for my 87 year old mother, and still have my life with my wife to live, and yet you feel just fine in being snarky toward someone you literally do not know, about how I couldn't find the time to post pictures in a fast enough manner to please you. Pathetic.

Glen has a thread called "NO question is too basic or silly - you ask - we WILL help you with it!". Fair enough.

Newbie asks a fair question about an NZ watermark.

Question: "Hi, How common is it for watermarks to be off centred in the NZ KGVI stamps, in particular the 1935-38 pictorials?".

Glen then uses the opportunity to take a GIANT DUMP on the Newbie:

"The same watermark paper was used on all the different size NZ stamps of that era, correct?
Did you assume they made different paper for each different denomination stamp, to assist stamp collector 85 years on?
Watermarks were there to prevent forgery .. nothing else." - Glen Stephens

  79. David Wood / Premier Postal Auctions Pty Ltd (In Liquidation).

From the Liquidator's Report, which you won't read in a Glen Stephens "Stamp News" propaganda column ha ha ha. He has covered it up:

David Wood / Premier Postal Auctions Pty Ltd (In Liquidation).

    $505,821.95 Estimated Loss

    $156,653.00 AUSTRALIAN TAXATION OFFICE
    $49,926.15 ANZ Banking Group
    $215,500.15 David Wood
    $113,410.04 Phoenix Auctions
    $14,881.48 31 Other Unsecured Creditors

    $24,252.17 Australian Taxation Office(Superannuation)
    $187.50 Wages

    $571,811.06 TOTAL LIABILITIES

Contrary to David Wood's LIES, Premier Postal Auctions and Phoenix Auctions are not "completely separate" as he posted on Stampboards.

They are joined at the hip, much like the Titanic and the Britannic. Phoenix Auctions has NO CASH to bail David Wood out, and he has none himself. Tax Office would not accept a pathetic repayment plan on the $156K+ they are owed. David Wood was banking on O'Rourke Kangaroos auction to bail his ass. Phoenix are skating on thin ice from auction to auction. Tax Office NOT interested in more delays and empty promises.

If PPA are Phoenix are "separate", why are Phoenix in PPA accounts?

Are Phoenix Auctions (Director: David Wood) up to date with their tax affairs?

How does PPA accrue a $156K tax debt?

How far back does the $156 tax debt go? What does this say about David Wood's commercial and administrative competence?

Do not PPA and Phoenix have the same accountants?

Why did David Wood not tell the philatelic community that PPA was forcibly shut down by the Tax Office for non-payment of $156,000?

    PPA still on APTA website.

Will David Wood be struck off APTA membership list for multiple breaches of their "Code of Ethics"?

Is David Wood a fit and proper person to own and run a major auction house?

  89. Global Asshole Glen Stephens slams another newbie.

They ask a perfectly intelligible question, with a picture, but get slammed anyway.

The newbie replies: "You don't have to be rude and call me lazy, and write "the usual 3 word heading from this member" , just because my main language isn't english, so I'm not always get it all right. Sorry for that...."

    2. Yes I wonder how he remains in business?
One reason could be that he send his emails every few weeks or whatever, and that too he send it to all members present and former (banned)..
So out of the 20000 emails he sends atleast 50 or more maybe buying stuff from him!

  92. In some of the earliest comments above someone mentions APTA banning Glen for forging overprints and even another dealer Robin Linke confirms it.....
    but
On stampboards there is another story being told -

'The FACTS are that Mr Stephens was suspended by ASDA (now APTA) over THIRTEEN years back, (26/3/1996) as he made a disparaging personal remark about another member, in an email to a non-member dealer. He was asked to withdraw it, and did not, and his APTA membership ceased, based on a Committee decision'

    And

'I ran afoul of APTA for calling member Gabrielle Woodbine a “snaky b!tch” in an email to another dealer. I had VERY sound grounds for my view, and still hold them.

Gabrielle was very close buddies with then APTA Secretary Lyndel Walker, and the Melbourne Mafia down there. Lyndel has for decades, and still does, worked for Melbourne APTA members, some on the Committee then, and your fate was doomed when that Lynch Mob was involved.

I back down from no-one in life, and never have, and still regard Woodbine as a “snaky b!tch”, and firmly stick to my guns. In life you need to have clear principles you believe in, and do not deviate from, and I always have stuck to mine. No-one bullies me'

    What is the true case??

    ReplyDelete
  93. What is true?

The Robin Linke version. Glen Stephens banned from ASDA for selling forged overprints.

ASDA and Glen Stephens never released any documents about it.

The Gabrielle Woodbine story is a fig leaf by Glen. She probably put him into ASDA for selling forged overprints, so he retaliates. Or he had some vendetta against her regardless.

Gabrielle has been in the stamp trade since the 1960s and no one has said a bad word about her. Gabrielle is not a "bitch" at all. She is a lovely lady and very honest. Unlike Glen Stephens.

  95. David Wood / Premier Postal Auctions (In Liquidation 21 February 2020) best friend of Glen Stephens, wound up with debts over half a million dollars.

    Liquidator's Report:

"My investigations indicate that the company may have traded whilst it was INSOLVENT from 30 June 2018 onwards.

This is based on a review of the company's financial accounts, including balance sheets and profit and loss reports, and the ATO's running balance account statement.

I am yet to determine the quantum of debts incurred whilst the company was insolvent.

I expect to make a claim on the director in the near future once my investigations are complete.

It is unclear at this stage whether the director has the financial capacity to pay or settle any demand for insolvent trading".

    ****

So this means then Phoenix Auctions (Director: David Wood) "O'Rourke" Kangaroos auction, slated for 12th June 2020, is being run by a potential insolvent? Facing a massive claim for insolvent trading?

How is this guy still a member of APTA? Even allowed to trade at all?

No, no, no. As a dealer with many years experience, and with abundantly superior intelligence and knowledge, Glen, you should know that Stanley Gibbons prices for post-War George VI issues are for MNH examples, not MLH, MH or any other condition.
